Resource Management and Sustainability
New Zealand Ling fish resources are strictly regulated by MPI, the Ministry for Primary Industries, and managed under New Zealand’s world-leading Quota Management System (QMS). Through ongoing scientific research, stock assessments, and fishing monitoring, the system helps ensure healthy fishery resources and supports a long-term balance between marine conservation and industry development.
Origin and Natural Habitat
Ling mainly inhabits the cold South Pacific waters at depths of 200 to 800 metres. It is found throughout New Zealand waters, with the southern South Island and the Campbell Rise deep-sea fishing grounds being particularly well known. The pristine marine environment and cold-water growing conditions contribute to its excellent flesh quality and consistent resource quality.
